Ms. Wei, a current Chinese teacher at SIS is now ready to start off a new beginning with her beloved husband after two years of teaching in Seoul International School. Unfortunately, she cannot pursue teaching Chinese anymore because of her working visa. Instead of going back to China, she plans on staying in Korea and spending most of the time in another town, most likely somewhere in Seoul, with her husband.
“She is very passionate about teaching Chinese and helping people,” said Vivianne Lee (8), a student from Ms. Wei’s Chinese I class. Shine Lee (8) believed that Ms. Wei was one of the most passionate teachers who puts all her effort and time to make sure that students understand what they are learning. “Her explanations are really clear and concise and she makes us make our own study guide which makes us understand better,” commented Eugenie Seok (8). According to the 8th grade students of Ms. Wei, she teaches in ways that let the students have fun while they are in the process of learning and understanding the language. Some of the activities that the kids participated in were rapping to a traditional Chinese song and making videos of what they have done. This year during the “Lunar New Years Festival”, she and the other Chinese teachers prepared a concert like show to celebrate the “New Year’s Day” for the middle school students. They wanted to teach not only the students of their own but students taking different languages and electives about the culture. A quality that convinces her students that she is a great teacher is how she reflects on her different experiences of teaching in different countries. “As a language teacher, I can compare my language with other languages that are spoken in that country,” said Ms. Wei Having been to different schools in different countries like China and USA in the past, she uses these experiences to plan out more effective ways her students can learn Chinese and gives straightforward explanations for the students to understand at once. Her students admire the way she teaches as they realized themselves, how much they have improved in Chinese. Although the students are heartbroken at the fact that she is leaving, they all wish her a great time in Korea for the rest of her years here. Thank you Ms. Wei and Zai Jian! |
