Voila! A new ice cream
Liquid nitrogen ice cream has been around for 28 years, and there are reasons why it’s so special and unique. It is made through a process called flash freezing, which freezes food instantly. Making regular ice cream demands a long process that requires chilling and freezing for hours before it is ready for consumption. Additionally, you have to use an ice cream machine to catch the perfect texture. Liquid nitrogen ice cream is created in a split second, and all you need is a mixer or a whisk. The ice cream with the perfect consistency is created without the fuss of waiting.
Liquid nitrogen ice cream is innovative, expeditious, and delectable. In this ice cream shop, customers are able to choose the toppings or ingredients that go in the ice cream mixture. The ice cream is freshly made in front of the customer, which makes it reliable and healthy. Liquid nitrogen ice cream has a particular consistency that regular ice cream cannot have. It’s smoother and creamier although it contains less fat. To experience the first taste of nitrogen ice cream ourselves, we went to Hongdae. There were seven ice cream flavours in total, and we ordered the Sea Salt and Mocha Chocolate Chip flavours. The employee masterfully made the ice cream right on the spot in no time, and we were able to witness the entire process. The ice cream shop had no door, and Voila Noir was written in big letters. SUNHEE BAE EDITOR SARAH JUNG DESIGN BY SEAN LEE The owner of Voila Kim Bum Seok recounts, “My first experience with liquid nitrogen ice cream was at Dippin Dots. I wanted customers to share the experience of liquid nitrogen ice cream process, which led me to the idea of flash freezing.”
The ingredients are reliable because it does not contain preservatives, artificial food coloring or flavors unlike other ice cream franchises. Other ice cream franchises contain ingredients that last one year, but the natural ingredients in Voila can only last up until five days. The owner credits the popularity of Voila to the fresh ingredients and the unique experience of witnessing the making process. Fusing liquid nitrogen with the base ingredients causes steam due to the liquid nitrogen stealing the heat from the base ingredients. This “[c]an be fun to watch, and the sound of ice cream being made can be fun to hear” said Kim Bum Seok of Voila. Liquid nitrogen ice cream is trendy, healthy, and entertaining choice for future generations. |
