UEFA Champions League is the most important and paramount stage for all football players. This league is only played the world's best teams, which have all qualified to the league by proving their superiority in their respective leagues. Thirty-two teams from the top leagues in Europe including Premier League and the Bundesliga, it is a great opportunity for the players to display their teamwork and individual skills to the world. Holding the Champions League cup is the dream of all football players as it’s the most favored tournament in the world.
Students of SIS show their passion towards football during recess, house games, or even at private football classes. This year, the passionate football players at SIS are influenced by each and every move their role models make during this tournament. At SIS, every shot in the tournament brings gasps, every goal brings cheers, and every game brings smiles or disappointments to each team and its fans. This ongoing tournament is currently in the quarterfinals with eight teams competing for the trophy and fame. “It’s a stage where all the biggest clubs in Europe come out and compete against each other. You’re aren’t going to see games between big european clubs outside of the Champions League,” says Haanbi Kim (8). Ben Kim (8) describes the UCL as a tournament that is important to him as a football player, “It is a part of me and a big part of my life as a [football] player and I personally think that Barcelona has a better chance of winning.” This tournament has a large influence to the football players at SIS as it is the time where the top class clubs face each other. As the top-class players display their capabilities on the pitch, they inspire students of SIS to become great players. Eugene Kim(8), a football player at SIS, describes his ardor towards tournament. “I sometimes wake up at 4:30 to watch my favorite team play even though it might be early in school days.” This isn’t a rare site to see because many middle school football players wake up early in order to cheer for their favorite club play. As of the first leg in semi-finals, FC Bayern received a shocking defeat of 3-0 by Barcelona as Real Madrid lost to Juventus by 2-1. The second leg is played on this Wednesday and Thursday, 3:45 GMT+9. |
