Hyeri Chang (8) found that using the internet to find the right volunteering organization for her was a bureaucratic system in itself. Thousands of people all over the world, striving to make a change will be delighted to hear that Hyeri Chang (8) has come to help. Hyeri is the creator of an upcoming Apple application that categorizes and describes the objective of various volunteering organizations in order to facilitate the process of community service registration.
“When I was trying to register for community service, the range of the volunteering categories was so wide that I had a hard time finding the organizations that would match my interests,” Hyeri said. “I wanted to find an organization that focused on poverty in local areas, just like the volunteer work that the high-school students participated in through helping people in areas like Hwahae-maeul.”
Her app has many features that will facilitate volunteers in order for them to be in closer contact with the organizations they are working with. These features will provide a succinct description of the organization’s objective, contact information, and the type of volunteers that the organization is looking for. It has been designed to expedite the process of applying to volunteering services.
Kindness and helping others in need have always been integral parts of Hyeri’s life, both in community service projects and in her daily life.
“Hyeri always strives to show her best in front of friends and is very well rounded. In addition, she always tries to compliment her peers whenever they are feeling down.”
Hyeri has gone through a long process of making the app, and it has taken large portions of time and great effort. In order to make an app by herself, she had to learn different computer programming skills through sources such as books and Youtube videos.
“It was really hard at first, but after days and days of practice, I got the hang of it,” Hyeri said. “The process of making the app was much like a research paper: it was a long-term project. There was the research that had to be completed, the images that had to be found, and I had to contact multiple volunteering organizations. I never had much of an interest in computers before, but after I decided to challenge myself, it became a part of my everyday life.”
After learning about computer programming, Hyeri has developed an interest in computer science.
“I want to major in areas like computer programming and computer science,” Hyeri said. “The tech industry greatly interests me and I want to pursue that field in the future.”
