“This year we had almost 90 students who tried out for cheerleading. We never had this many students who were eager to do this sport in SIS,” Ms. Goodrich, the varsity coach, explained to our reporter.
The TIGERS were shy of their loud roars, but not anymore. The SIS cheer teams are making their way up the ladder amongst the international schools in Korea, coming in third place in this year’s KAIAC competition. The newly flourishing sport consists of seventeen cheerleaders, where they compete with numerous routines that include stunts, jumps, tumbling and dance. Each team has a sideline cheer, which is a chant to build support amongst the players out on the field, such as, “Give me an S! Give me an I! Give me an S! Go SIS!” “When I got in, I learned how to perform better with many of the cheerleading elements as we practiced throughout the season. So I want to tell the people who are interested in being part of the team that they don’t have to be perfect in everything at first,” said Bethany Ko (11) , who is currently in the varsity cheer team. “I hope the cheerleaders take away a sense of teamwork because a lot of the things cheerleaders have to do require them to work as a team. I also think that communication is important because in any sport, you have to work as a team, which takes every team member to perform well if you get along and be supportive of one another,” states Ms. Goodrich, the Varsity cheerleading coach. The varsity cheer team will keep up their roars for our school’s spirit. They will challenge anybody in their way. Although the cheerleading season has come to an end, we freshmen will bring the SIS cheer team to the top. After all, we are in it to win it. |
