“Optimism,” said Jiyeon Kwon (10) when she was asked to describe Ms. Caldwell in one single word. Ms. Caldwell has been teaching ninth and tenth grade English and US history for two years in SIS. She feels very lucky that she has gotten the opportunity to teach in two departments. Last year, she mostly taught ninth graders. However, this year she mostly taught tenth graders and she feels very lucky that she got to know tenth graders so well. Ms. Caldwell has been an extremely active person in the SIS community for the last two years.

After leaving SIS, Ms. Caldwell is moving back to Seattle to live with her brother, sister-in-law, her niece and her newborn nephew. She is looking for jobs and is planning on taking a break from teaching. Even though she is planning on taking a break from the classroom. Ms. Caldwell promised that she will return back to international teaching one can feel someday. Without a clear plan, the situation can be very intimidating. However, Ms. Caldwell thinks that it’s very scary and exciting at the same time.
Ms. Caldwell is a fair person, enthusiastic, unique, cheerful, and bright, person and teacher according her tenth grade students. When we asked her to describe her students, she thought for a moment, and then “...They are very hardworking. It’s an intense school, and they are under pressure. But in that, I found them very creative, and willing to challenge each other and challenge themselves.” During her two years in SIS, Ms. Caldwell took part in MUN and taught English and US History. She was always bright, and made freshman feel very welcomed to high school. By the end of the interview, we asked her what she is going to miss the most. Without hesitation, Ms. Caldwell replied, “Students, for sure.” |
