As the societies become more sophisticated and systematic, people crave for more entertainment that can satisfy their free time. So, to fulfil their demands, countries started to advertise sports, such as basketball or baseball, which currently attract the largest audiences. A country that dedicates a great amount of concentration into sports is the United States.
The current sports associations, such as NBA and MLB attract a lot of people for having high quality players and games all the time. However, people believe that sports leagues outside of the US, such as the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) are inferior. After surveying many students and teachers, it was easy to notice the high popularity of American sports compared to Korean sports games. |
“NBA and MLB have the best players in the world. The American league pays the most for high quality players and games all the time,” said Peter Brodhead, a teacher that enjoys watching MLB online in Korea. “That’s how they attract so many people… Isn’t it?”
Like Mr. Brodhead, many people watch American sports just because the players are talented. However, the problem is that these people think other leagues of different countries all lack in quality, compared to American leagues. Truly, this is a misconception because different sports leagues have their own unique factor that makes it special. One specific example can be the Korean sports leagues.

The most interesting factor about Korean sports is the enthusiastic cheers of the audience. Each team has its own cheers that the audience sings along with. Especially during playoff baseball games, people scream along the cheering songs that echo outside of the stadium and into the streets.
“The fans cheer with passion. There’s strong rivalry and the atmosphere is lively. I always enjoy watching the audience roar when a player hits a homerun.” said Alex Cha, a current Samsung fan that favors KBO, Korea Baseball Organization. Yes, the players in MLB or NBA have better skills and are more talented. However, in terms of the gameday experience at the stadium, Korean sports leagues are way above. making them so unique and interesting to watch. Korean sports leagues may lack in skill, but the games do not lack in passion. |
