Hillary Clinton: First Female President of U.S.?
The United States is a nation that many countries look up to as the leader in our world. However, unlike many countries such as South Korea or Germany, the U.S has a small number of female politicians. As such, many believe that Hillary Clinton’s bid for presidency is a great idea to show the world that the U.S supports female leaders. Therefore, many people believe that Hillary Clinton can solve this unfortunate problem in the 2016 presidential election.
“Everyday Americans need a champion. And I want to be that champion,” Mrs. Clinton said. “So I’m hitting the road to earn your vote — because it’s your time. And I hope you’ll join me on this journey.” The words from Hillary Clinton resonate in a recent press conference. Not only did her rhetoric inform the world of the possibility of the first female United States president, it has also sent a powerful message to women that politics is not only reserved for men anymore. In today’s world, some of the greatest leaders and politicians are women, and Clinton has paved a path for many female political figures to emerge in the U.S. The fact that we look up to the United States as the leader of the free world is rather disappointing, when in fact such an advanced country never had a female leader in power. Angela Merkel, the first female chancellor of Germany, has assumed her position for nearly a decade, as well as South Korea, a country which already had a female president for years now. Also female figures like Margaret Thatcher had been at the position of Prime Minister for the United Kingdom from 1975 to 1990. The United States is a country very far up in the rankings in terms of economics, technological innovations, medical breakthroughs, and military resources. However, even with all these advances, the U.S has still yet to have a female president to lead the country. Hillary Clinton’s plans for presidency in 2016 has not only sparked hope for the first female president in the United States, but Clinton’s campaign itself could be instrumental for those following her footsteps. Her campaign could show significant dominance in today’s political world. Hillary Clinton’s possible victory in 2016 could mean more than being the first female president of the United States; this opportunity could potentially allow the country to catch up to the rest of the world in terms of female politicians. |
