Food vendors
In a typical sit down restaurant, the chef and customer relationship is nonexistent. The connection is inevitably weak. Also, the price may be surprising, especially when the taste didn’t suffice. However, Korean food vendors are luckily here to help. They provide a close relationship between the customer and the worker, and compared to a regular restaurants, food vendors guarantee a meal that satisfies the customers at an affordable price. A typical Korean food vendor would sell spicy rice cakes, fish cakes, and a variety of fried goods.
These spicy rice cakes are cooked in a mixture of soy sauce, hot pepper paste, water, and sugar. This mix is then kept simmering on a stovetop for the rest of the day. The next common item is a fish cake. Better known as uh-mook, these fish cakes are a variety of seafood compressed into a cake and kept under a steaming hot stock. The last typical item is fried food. These include squid legs and dumplings. They are instantly fried so that customers can receive their food quickly. However, hot food isn’t the only reason for it’s popularity. The foundation of the its popularity is based upon the fact that there are many aspects that you wouldn’t be able to find in a normal restaurant such as, customer and worker relationships, or the comfortability while eating food. In a restaurant where everything is systematic, the connection is lost in between the chef’s cooking and the waiter’s delivery. However, when the chef is sitting two feet away from you and serving you with a smile, it’s hard for the connection to be lost. When asked, a food vendor replied by saying, “...the close relationship between the customers and I is something that a restaurant can’t bring.” Comfortability is another reason. The fact that you can relax and be comfortable around the person who you’re paying and sometimes even have a conversation is priceless. Being able to talk to the chef and have a conversation is why the students don’t feel pressured to follow a common etiquette that might be required in a restaurant. In conclusion, Korean food vendors are so popular to workers and students because of 3 aspects. The taste, the close relationship, and the comfortability. The same customer and worker relationship doesn’t exist anywhere else. With all this in mind, does one need to question the popularity of a food vendor? |
