Dribbling to Junior Varsity Boys Basketball
Many people think that it is easy to get into the SIS Junior Varsity Basketball team. Students just have to shoot some hoops, maybe dribble a little, pass. However, it is much more complicated than we expect it to be.
We interviewed two people from the JV Boys Basketball team and both of them stated that it is harder than we perceive it. “It was definitely difficult to get into JV Basketball because there were 60 people trying out and only 15 got in so it was really hard and competitive since everybody wanted a spot” said Ryan Jang (9). “I realized how hard it was to get in, everyone was really competitive and everybody was really good” said David Yoo (9) There were also a few things that the coach saw in the players that were very impressive. “Teaching Junior Varsity Basketball was awesome because I had a great group of guys and towards the end of the season, started working really well together. I think that getting into Junior Varsity is hard than most students comprehend mostly because the athletic programs here at SIS, especially basketball is really competitive. It’s harder than people perceive it to be.” stated Mr. Barnett (7th Grade Language Arts) A few very important things to know in order to get into Junior Varsity boys Basketball is to know how to be a good teammate, how to see the big picture, and know how to understand that there is a big difference in JV basketball and recess basketball. It is a very fun sport but for those boys out there who want to join, they have to be prepared to commit their time and effort into playing this sport. Even though the season is over for SIS, there are still many players who work hard outside of school to develop their skills for the next season. With all that practice, the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team has come back to SIS from a lot of games with trophies in their hands and with pride. |
