Everyday from Monday to Friday, 11:15 am is a busy time for JJ’s. As the students roar into the cafeteria, cooks from JJ’s quickly start serving the food. It was easy to see the variety of meals served from this cafeteria system. However, we hear many opinions about the taste and the quality of the food, most students say negative comments about the JJ’s. Therefore, to find more about JJ’s and their process of cooking meals, we first interviewed students about their opinions about the food JJ’s serve.
“I think that JJ’s try to balance the nutrition in their meals,” Susan Lee, an 8th grade student believes. “I can notice their time and effort used towards creating a meal that we’d like to eat.” |

The manager of JJ’s explained to us how they balance their nutrition and plan the menus accordingly with the staff members. And surprisingly, JJ’s cook their meals every morning rather than cooking it the day before. They also work with local markets in Garak, so that they are able to get fresh ingredients for their meals.
However, the use of oil was the big question, since fried food are very unhealthy when consumed too much. When we mentioned oils, the JJ’s staff asserted that they restrict the use of oil by serving fried food only once a week. Not only oil, but their use of salt and other spices are controlled and balanced, so that they are not used excessively in the food. “We try to provide the students with meals that use a suitable amount of salt and many other ingredients which can affect your diet negatively,” stated the manager of JJ’s. “We want the students and teachers to know that we’re trying our best to serve them healthy meals.” There have been many comments from students and teachers about the lunch made from JJ’s. However, after looking over the process of how JJ’s cook their meals, we can see that they put in their effort and set plans to create a meal healthy and tasty for students to enjoy. |
