Crazy Body Goals: Are They All Achievable?
Thigh gaps, flat stomachs, and deep collarbones are body goals that women or girls desire. Pictures of women with a perfect body are all over the media, and they look absolutely flawless. “Thinspiration” is a word made to inspire people to work for a thin body. Tumblr, Pinterest, and Instagram are the main social networking services that contain the majority of photos or quotes that motivate people to strive for a body that is unbelievably hard to achieve. There are quotes like, “Hungry to bed, hungry to rise, makes a girl a smaller size.” or “It’s not about being skinny or pretty, it’s about being perfect, and not a pound more.” The sayings almost seem harmful and abusing to our body and mental system. The media depicted a perfect body for women, and women want this perfect body because they want other people to strive for their body, and want to be known as a perfectly shaped person.
Another reason women are motivated to have the perfect body is because of the flawless images of celebrities and models. Models have a skinny body because it takes part in their job, and they have to fit into all clothes. Celebrities post selfies or pictures of their flawless body on social media, and women think that they also need to be flawless. “I want to have a body like theirs,” says Allyson Kim. However, celebrities on magazine covers and pictures on social media are often photoshopped. They don’t have the perfect body the media created, and they think they have flaws too. The flaws are what makes a body unique and your own perfect body. In order to maintain a healthy and fit body system, women should not endeavour body goals. Some people have different body structures which cause them to be unable to have a thigh gap, flat stomach or deep collarbones. A thigh gap is achievable if you have a wide hip bone which makes the legs further apart. People with narrow hips would have a very hard time trying to obtain a thigh gap. Just because women don’t have the traits of a perfect body the media has created, doesn’t mean you don’t have a perfect body. A perfect body should be a body that is healthy, so stay as your beautiful self and love your perfect body. |
